RCC Solutions:
Strength and Longevity for Your Projects

A pioneer in RCC in Quebec since 1996, Les Carrières de St-Dominique offers a durable, resilient, and high-performance solution suited to municipal, commercial, industrial, and agricultural projects. In addition to serving Quebec, we are also available to clients in Ontario.

Les Carrières de St-Dominique

What Is RCC?

  • Dry, zero-slump concrete
  • Same base components as conventional concrete
  • Produced with a continuous mobile Pugmill plant
  • Placed in a single layer with pavers and compacted by roller
  • Unreinforced concrete: no dowels or tie bars
  • No formwork required
  • 100% Quebec-based technology: materials, applications, expertise

RCC Features and Benefits

  • RCC rigidity distributes loads over a large surface area to the foundation (reduced pressure)
  • Superior resistance to abrasion and impact
  • Resistant to freeze/thaw cycles
  • Unaffected by high temperatures = no creep = no rutting
  • 100% load-bearing capacity year-round
  • Designed for unlimited traffic passes = no fatigue cracking
  • Rapid return to service:
  • Heavy traffic: ready for use after 72 hours
  • Light traffic: ready for use after 6 hours
  • Surface with high solar reflectance index (SRI, albedo, heat islands)
  • Expansion joints to be considered based on structure dimensions (thermal expansion)
  • Proven durability (Carrières St-Dominique has been delivering RCC projects since 1996)

Frequently Asked Questions
About Roller-Compacted Concrete

  • What Is the Difference Between RCC and Conventional Concrete?

RCC uses the same basic components as conventional concrete, but is distinguished by its dry consistency (no slump) and its placement process.

It is produced continuously using a mobile Pugmill-type plant, then spread by a paver and compacted with a roller—without formwork, dowels, or tie bars. The result is a rigid, monolithic slab that is installed faster and at a lower cost than traditional concrete.

  • For What Types of Projects Is RCC Recommended?

Roll-compacted concrete is suitable for a wide variety of projects requiring a durable, heavy-duty load-bearing surface: parking lots, loading docks, heavy-duty traffic areas, storage zones, and sites in the port, mining, forestry, manufacturing, and agricultural sectors.

It is also favoured by municipalities for its reflective properties, which help reduce urban heat islands.

  • Is RCC Suitable for the Quebec Climate?

Yes. RCC is specifically designed to withstand the freeze-thaw cycles characteristic of the Quebec climate. It is also resistant to high temperatures, which eliminates the risk of creep and rutting in the summer.

Les Carrières de St-Dominique has been carrying out RCC projects in Quebec since 1996 — proven durability under our actual climate conditions.

  • How Long Must One Wait Before Putting an RCC Surface Into Service?

Roll-compacted concrete offers particularly rapid return to service. For light traffic, the surface is usable as early as 6 hours after placement. For heavy traffic, the waiting period is 72 hours.

Compared to conventional concrete or asphalt, this speed significantly reduces operational disruptions at your commercial, industrial, or municipal sites.
