Les Carrières de St-Dominique Ltée quarry high quality calcitic and dolomitic limestone. This stone is mostly used by concrete and asphalt plants, as well as for road construction.
Once the soil at the rock surface has been removed, we start on dynamiting the rock. First we establish a drilling pattern which determines the number of holes to drill, the distances between them and their depths. This drilling pattern also helps us to calculate the volume of stone that we will take from the rock face.
Afterwards, we proceed with loading the trucks. One after another, they carry the stone to the primary crushing plant located in the quarry itself, close to the rock that is being used. A
42 " X 48 " Hewitt-Robins crusher with a production capacity of 1 000 mt/hour, reduces the stone from 48 " to 12 " before sending it by conveyor to the secondary crusher. The secondary crusher consists of a Nordberg HP 500 cone with a production capacity of 800 mt/hour. It reduces the stone from 12 " to 3 ". The product is carried by trucks to our two tertiary plants.
Those tertiary plants produce stone in many sizes. The stone is sent by trucks to our reserves. We produce about 35 000 mt of crushed stone weekly, for a total of approximately
1 000 000 mt every year.
We also have a limestone plant equipped with two Bradley 6000 millstones that grind stone of 0-20 mm into a very fine product (0-2 mm). The limestone, for which there is a great demand in agriculture, is kept in a 300 mt storage bin next to the plant. The surplus stock is sent to our warehouse, which has a capacity of 2 500 mt, and therefore is protected from bad weather. Our plant is tooled up with a bagger that allows us to sell our product retail as well as in bulk.
Please note that all the products made in Les Carrières de St-Dominique ltée, whether it is crushed stone or limestone, are inspected and controlled from start to finish by a quality control.
